All the snowboarding books teach the snowboarding basics you will need to perform the tricks you see others perform.
If you are going to be a good snowboarder you must work harder that the best snowboarders out there. Luckily for you the sport is a fun sport. After all, what other sport has people flinging themselves off ramps, coming off a jump and turning your back down the hill, flipping 540 and landing fakie or rotating a total of 720 and landing regular. Is that fun or what.
To be the best at anything the most important skill you must learn is to be able to fall and get up and do it again.
Golfers are familiar with the phrase " Hit the ball as hard as you can, go find it and hit it again." Do not be afraid of failure. It happens to the best of us.
While I was in the navy many years ago I served aboard a destroyer. Our job was to act as plane guard for the aircraft carrier. We were there in position behind the carrier in case a plane crashed on landing and went over the side. We were to pick up the pilot.
When a pilot crashed his plane and remained on the deck he was checked out by the medical staff. If he or she was not injured he was immediately put in another plane and sent up for a spin. This way he did not allow fear of flying and crashing get in the way.
The same goes for snowboarding. You will never learn the blindside rotation if you are afraid of taking a header. Give it a try. And do it again until you succeed.
Once you have learned the basics you must learn to execute them. This is where the time on the hill comes into play. Take note of what all of the professional golfers do once they learn the basics. Their day begins with at least a one hour workout in the gym. After that they hit the driving range to tune up for at least an hour before tee time. Then they tee off and play 4 to 5 hours. Finally after the game is over and they have a lunch they hit the range for a few hours of practice. And these are the professionals who learned the basics a long time ago.
This is what we mean when we say they put their heart into the game. They hate to lose.
Once you have learned snowboarding basics it is time to put your heart into the game and this is the way to become a winner.
